Section 3
LIC
Constitution, Article VIII, Scholastic Bowl, Section 3 (amendment
proposed and First Reading approved at Spring, 2008 meeting, Final approval and
adoption made at Fall, 2008 meeting.
An LIC Scholastic Bowl Tournament Champion will be determined in the following
manner. The teams will be seeded into two groups of three teams each
and one group of four teams. The seeding will be determined based
on the varsity standing (record of LIC wins and losses) at the end of the
regular season. If there is a tie during this process to determine the
seeding order, the coaches will use the Tie Breaker: 1 Consider head
to head competition during Conference play between the teams tied.
2. Consider the least number of points allowed between the teams tied
during the Conference contests between the teams tied. 3. If the
teams are still tied the seeding shall be decided by chance. If only two
teams are tied the seeding shall be determined by a coin toss conducted by any
Scholastic Bowl Coach or Principal of any LIC Member School not involved
in the tie, or if more than two teams are tied in the ranking to determine
tournament placement, the teams tied shall draw straws. The straws shall
be prepared by any Scholastic Bowl Coach or Principal of any LIC Member School not involved in the tie. The top three seeded teams will each
serve as host for a preliminary round. Seed #1 and Seed #2 will each host
one group of three teams each and Seed #3 will host one group of four
teams. Teams seeded #4 - #10 will be assigned to a tournament site as
follows: Seed #1 will host Seed #7, and Seed #10. Seed #2 will host
Seed #6 and Seed #9. Seed #3 will host Seed #4, Seed #5, and Seed
#8.
On Monday of IHSA Standardized Calendar Week #22 each of the Preliminary
Round Host School Teams will conduct a round-robin style competition. The
Head
Coach, or
his/her designee, of the Preliminary Round Site will determine the order of
matches for the round. The winning team from each site, based on won-lost
record, will advance to the Little Illini Conference Tournament Final
Round. If there are any ties to determine the results of the preliminary
or final
rounds
the tiebreaker set forth is Section 4 (following) shall be used to break
the tie and determine the winner. The highest seeded team among the three
winners from the three preliminary sites will host the LIC Tournament Final Round.
The LIC Tournament Finals will be held on Monday of IHSA Standardized Calendar
Week #23. The Tournament Champion will be determined by a round-robin format
competition among the three Preliminary Site winners. The order of play
will be determined by drawing the team names. The name of each team will
be placed in a container and the Principal of the Host School, or his/her
designee, shall draw out two names. These two teams shall play the first
match. The third team (Team C) shall play the loser (Team B) of the first
match, and the final match shall be between the winner of the first match (Team
A) and Team C. The Head Coach, or his/her designee, of the team not
competing shall be the Moderator of the match between the two other
finalists. The Team with the best won-lost record for the Final Round of the Tournament
shall be declared LIC Tournament Champion. (In case of a tie see Section 4
following.)
