ARTICLE III . . . Awards
Section 1
The Executive Committee shall provide for and distribute all awards to the winners. Awards will be given on the basis of a form of divisional play in the sports of football, volleyball, boy’s basketball, girls’ basketball, softball, and baseball. The Conference schools competing in each activity will be divided into two divisions with the majority, in the case of uneven numbers in each division, being placed in the group of schools with larger enrollment. Divisions will be determined based on the previous school years’ Fall housing report. The overall champion in each of these sports will be the school with the best record in Conference play after playing all teams in the activity; the team from the opposite division with the best Conference record in that division would also be recognized with a suitable division champion award.
Section 2
Suitable awards shall be provided and distributed to the winners of all Conference and tournament championships. In case of a tie, identical awards shall be given to each school tying for the championship. The Executive Committee shall be authorized to distribute suitable awards for Conference sponsored activities.

Section 4

It shall be the responsibility of the head coaches of football, volleyball, basketball, baseball, and softball of each member school in the Conference to choose All-conference selections in their respective sports. The dates for these selections meetings for each sport are as follows:
Football – Wednesday of Week 18 of IHSA Standardized calendar
Volleyball – Wednesday of Week 18 of IHSA Standardized calendar
Girls Basketball – Wednesday of Week 34 of IHSA Standardized calendar
Boys Basketball – Thursday of Week 35 of IHSA Standardized calendar
Girls Softball – Tuesday of Week 47 of IHSA Standardized calendar
Boys Baseball – Tuesday of Week 47 of IHSA Standardized calendar
The school that won the regular season championship shall be the coordinator for this meeting. To break a tie among two or more teams who are tied only for the right to host the All Conference Selection Meeting for one of the above named sports: 1. Consider head to head competition during Conference play between the teams tied. 2. Consider the least number of points allowed between the teams tied during the Conference contests between the teams tied. 3. If the teams are still tied the host shall be decided by chance. If only two teams are tied the host shall be determined by a coin toss if more than two teams are tied, the coaches of the teams that are tied shall draw straws. The meeting shall be at a time after school so as to allow all coaches, or their representative, to attend. If a change in this procedure is necessitated, the Executive committee shall be consulted.
Section 6
All Conference Selections - The Conference shall bear the expense of appropriate awards to All-Conference selections. All-Conference selections are to be given as follows:
A. These are statistical awards for placement in their Conference meet/tournaments: Scholastic Bowl = 10; Golf = 10; Boys Track = 30; Girls Track = 34 (Track ---- winners of each event at the Conference tourney)
B. The Coaches of these sports will vote on their All-Conference Teams according to the guidelines listed below:
First Team: Football = 33; Volleyball =12; Boys Basketball = 10; Girls Basketball = 10; Baseball = 18; Softball = 18;
Second Team: Football = 11; Volleyball = 6; Boys Basketball = 5; Girls Basketball = 5; Baseball = 9; Softball = 9.
Honorable Mention: After the First and Second Teams have been selected, each coach may name one player as Honorable Mention and each player so named will receive a Little Illini Conference certificate indicating such. Football coaches only may name one Honorable Mention player for Offense and one Honorable Mention for Defense.
C. Method of Selection - Immediately after the end of all regular season play, and after the final Conference standings have been determined, the President of the Conference will send out a request to each Principal to give to their head coach for a list of nominees from their school to be placed on an All-Conference ballot. The list of nominees will be signed by the Principal of the nominating school before being sent back to the Conference President. The number of nominees allowed per school will be determined by the school’s placement in the regular season conference standings, based on overall Conference records. Teams placing first through third may nominate up to four players, teams placing fourth through sixth may nominate up to three players, and teams placing seventh through tenth may nominate up to two players. After receiving these lists, the President will compile a master list of nominees and send them out to the Principal of each school for distribution to each school’s head coaches. At the All-Conference coaches meeting each coach will tell about their nominees’ qualifications. Coaches shall use statistics from Regular Season Conference Games ONLY. When everyone has finished one person shall be designated as the recorder. Each coach shall cast his/her ballot aloud and shall give a written copy to the record keeper. The coaches will vote for the appropriate number of players using a point system where the players with the highest number of total points will be named as members of the All-Conference team. Coaches will not vote for their own players. [Example, using our Constitution, there are 18 players named to the All-Conference volleyball team (First & Second team). When voting, coaches would give their top choice 18 points, their second choice 17 points, their third choice 16 points, etc. down to their last choice who will be given 1 point. The 12 players with the highest number of total points will be named as members of the First Team All-Conference. The next 6 players will be named as members of the All-Conference Second Team. The point totals will be added by the coaches at this meeting to determine the All Conference First Team and All Conference 2nd team. The Head Coach from each school will name one Honorable Mention player for his/her school. (Awards are listed in Article XIII - Awards, Section 1 and Section 2) The designated recorder shall be responsible for reporting the results {and providing the written ballots} to the Conference President.
Even though football names its All-Conference team by position, the above nomination and voting procedure will be followed. The number of nominations listed above would apply to each team – offense and defense. When voting, the coaches will rank all nominees (except their own) for each position, with the top vote-getter (the top 2 for 2-position awards, etc.) being named to the All-Conference team. {Offense: Center – 1, Guard – 3, Tackle – 3, Tight End – 2, Receiver – 2, Quarterback – 1, Running Back – 4, Kicker – 1. Defense: Defensive linemen - 6, Linebacker – 5, Back – 4, Punter – 1} After the First Team All-Conference players have been selected, coaches will vote again from the list of remaining nominees to select the Second Team All-Conference Team. This voting will be done regardless of position, offense or defense, taking the top 11 point totals. Coaches may not nominate more than the number of 1st team members for any position---i.e.: for offensive guard, no school may nominate more than 3 players; for receiver no more than 2 nominations; for kicker no more than 1 nomination; etc. Should the member schools nominate fewer athletes than the number selected for a position, each school may nominate at the selection meeting one additional player to be voted upon for that position. Also, the Punter and Kicker positions will be considered as their own separate category and will not count toward the allotted number of nominees from any school.
In case of a tie or ties for the last spot on any All-Conference team, there will be a re-balloting of all coaches for that spot. If this re-balloting still results in a tie, all athletes still tied will be named to the team.
Section 7
A Little Illini Conference Award Plaque will be presented annually to each member school. For each Conference activity in which a school participates, the Principal is encouraged to select a scholar participant. Selection criteria will be determined by each school. The purpose of this award is to honor students who excel in the Conference activity as well as in the classroom. The name of each student selected shall be entered into the L.I.C. record at the Fall meeting for the previous school year. The name of each student may, at the discretion of each school, be engraved on the Academic Award plaque and displayed in a place of honor at the school. Individual plaques may be ordered from the Conference and will be made available to Conference schools, at cost, for their individual winners.
A “Winning Coach” Award will be presented to the coach of the team of the regular season champion in each Varsity Conference activity.

ARTICLE VIII . . . Scholastic Bowl
Section 1
A Conference Champion shall be determined by means of a round-robin format, regular season schedule beginning on Monday of IHSA Standardized Calendar Week #17 and continuing each Monday through Monday of Week #21. The team with the best won-lost record in matches between Conference schools during the round robin schedule will be declared Conference Champion and receive an appropriate award. For LIC matches each team shall consist of up to 5 players (this is an exception to IHSA Rules).
The ten (10) individuals with the highest number of correct Toss-Up answers for the season (based on the official Conference score sheets for Conference matches), will be named to an All Conference team and will receive suitable awards.
An LIC Scholastic Bowl Tournament Champion will be determined in the following manner. The teams will be seeded into two groups of three teams each and one group of four teams. The seeding will be determined based on the varsity standing (record of LIC wins and losses) at the end of the regular season. If there is a tie during this process to determine the seeding order, the coaches will use the Tie Breaker: 1 Consider head to head competition during Conference play between the teams tied. 2. Consider the least number of points allowed between the teams tied during the Conference contests between the teams tied. 3. If the teams are still tied the seeding shall be decided by chance. If only two teams are tied the seeding shall be determined by a coin toss conducted by any Scholastic Bowl Coach or Principal of any LIC Member School not involved in the tie, or if more than two teams are tied in the ranking to determine tournament placement, the teams tied shall draw straws. The straws shall be prepared by any Scholastic Bowl Coach or Principal of any LIC Member School not involved in the tie. The top three seeded teams will each serve as host for a preliminary round. Seed #1 and Seed #2 will each host one group of three teams each and Seed #3 will host one group of four teams. On Monday of IHSA Standardized Calendar Week #22 each of the Preliminary Round Host School Teams will conduct a round-robin style competition. The Head Coach, or his/her designee, of the Preliminary Round Site will determine the order of matches for the round. The winning team from each site, based on won-lost record, will advance to the Little Illini Conference Tournament Final Round. If there are any ties to determine the results of the preliminary or final rounds the tiebreaker set forth is Section 4 (following) shall be used to break the tie and determine the winner. The highest seeded team among the three winners from the three preliminary sites will host the LIC Tournament Final Round.
The LIC Tournament Finals will be held on Monday of IHSA Standardized Calendar Week #23. The Tournament Champion will be determined by a round-robin format competition among the three Preliminary Site winners. The order of play will be determined by drawing the team names. The name of each team will be placed in a container and the Principal of the Host School, or his/her designee, shall draw out two names. These two teams shall play the first match. The third team (Team C) shall play the loser (Team B) of the first match, and the final match shall be between the winner of the first match (Team A) and Team C. The Head Coach, or his/her designee, of the team not competing shall be the Moderator of the match between the two other finalists. The Team with the best won-lost record for the Final Round of the Tournament shall be declared LIC Tournament Champion. (In case of a tie see Section 4 following.)
In the event of a tie in the standings at either the preliminary sites or at the finals of the LIC Tournament, the winner will be determined by using the following tiebreakers in ascending order:
1. Head to head competition during the Conference Tournament between the teams who are tied
2. Highest number of points scored in Conference Tournament games between the teams who remain tied.
3. Highest number of points scored in all Conference Tournament games.
4. Fewest number of points allowed in all Conference Tournament games between the teams tied

The Captain of the Team with the higher Seed for the Tournament will call “heads” or “tails” while the coin is airborne. When the coin comes to rest if the side visible to the contestants matches the “call” made by the Captain then that team shall be declared the winner, if the side visible to the contestants does not match the “call” made by the Captain then the opposing team shall be declared the winner.
During both the regular season and the Tournament the question sets for each match will consist of 25 toss-ups and 15 bonus questions. Each match will end only after all toss-up questions have been read even if the bonus questions were exhausted earlier (This is an exception to IHSA Rules).
